Have your say

This postcard from the 1950s shows the Rock Gardens at Southsea with its pavilion in the background.

Jackie and David Baynes, from Old Portsmouth, are researching the history of the site and would like some help.

They found a cutting in The News from 1987 which mentioned that our gardening columnist and former city parks officer, Brian Kidd, was to receive an award for that year’s guide to Southsea’s gardens.

About 50,000 were printed and picked up by residents and visitors, but neither Brian nor the Baynes can find one. Do you have an old copy you would be prepared to give to them?

They would also like to hear from anyone who remembers attending events at the Rock Gardens Pavilion, which opened in 1948. They can be contacted on (023) 9283 1461.
