A delightful look along Pembroke Road, Old Portsmouth, in Edwardian days when all there was on the road was a bakers van and a stray dog.

Edwin Thompson, of Gosport, sent me this photo asking if I knew anything about it. Taken in the early part of the last century it shows a cattle barge about to cross from Gosport to Old Portsmouth where there was a slaughterhouse at the Camber. In the distance you can see the Dockyard’s Semaphore Tower rebuilt after the fire of December 1913.
