Can you imagine this amount of railwaymen working at Fratton station today? Indeed, can you imagine this amount of railwaymen working in the entire Portsmouth area?

These are railwaymen, platform staff and shunters to maybe signalmen and booking office clerks, based at Fratton some 90 years ago, I should imagine. They are posing on the original platforms of the East Southsea branch with the footbridge still in situ behind them, less the glass and roof. The line closed in 1916 and the platforms were demolished in about 1923, so I imagine this photo was taken around that time.
