A former porter's picture has stirred memories of Portsmouth's old main hospital.

The photograph showing an ambulance outside the casualty department at the Royal Hospital in the city centre was posted on our Portsmouth nostalgia Facebook page and soon laid claim to by Peter Flint.

The Royal, which had operated in Commercial Road for 140 years, was closed in 1979 and demolished to make way for the Sainsbury's store that now stands on the site.
