Thanks to those who pointed out my error last week suggesting that the Edwardian photograph of Portsmouth Harbour showed HMS Victory.
Of course, it was not Nelson’s flagship but HMS St Vincent.
Built in 1815 as a first rate 120-gun ship, she became a training ship in 1862 and was moored off Gosport from 1870 until being broken up in 1906.
One of those who picked me up was marine artist Colin Baxter, of the Driftwood Studio at the Royal Clarence Yard, Gosport.
An exhibition of his work has just finished at Gosport Gallery, Walpole Road, and included this painting of his showing St Vincent dominating the harbour.
