Have your say

This 1909 picture of Palmerston Road, Southsea, was taken outside Joshua Warsow’s cigarette-making business, one of several in Portsmouth in the early 20th century to cater for the growing addiction among working people.

The shop awning on the right belonged to butch William Ford and on the opposite corner of Stanley Lane is fishmonger Robert Gibb, soon to absorbed by Knight and Lee.

On the immediate left is Timothy White’s chemist next door to the Victoria Hotel and, further up, the Cambridge Hotel.
