Both photographs here feature young John Slade.
He got in touch after seeing the recent Remember When picture of Portsdown School’s football team of the early 1950s at portsmouth.co.uk.
John, who now lives near Rochester, Kent, featured in the original and can also be seen here in a later reincarnation of the team from the 1955-56 season.
His memory has served him well, but not comprehensively. There are some missing first names.
Back row (l to r): Ted Brown, John Slade, Billy Bartlett, T Crawford, Phil Bonney, Ken Lloyd, Eddie Hartford, Mr Williams.
Front: A Wallis, Ron Crockford, B Davidson, Mick Herbett, T Richardson, Colin Kember, Gordon Turvey.
And John adds: ‘Not forgetting the real star, The Dog.’
The original picture came from Colin Kember and John has now contacted him and wonders if any of the lads from this photograph fancy a reunion. John can be reached via firstname.lastname@example.org and Colin at email@example.com.
John’s second picture was taken about a decade earlier at the street party celebrating the end of the Second World War in Second Avenue, Cosham, complete with guest appearances by Churchill and Stalin.
John is in the back row, third from the right in his dad’s arms, also John. His mum, Doreen, is next to them.
John said: ‘We lived at 7 Second Avenue with my nan Emily Weaver. We did move in 1948 to 65 Portsdown Crescent, Cosham, a prefab estate on Portsdown Hill, just above the Cottage Homes children’s home.’
