Tongue-in-cheek Colin Kimber got in touch after seeing this picture last week and describes himself as the ‘good-looking goalkeeper’ in the front row.
It shows Portsdown School’s league-winning side of the early 1950s and came from Dennis Read who is second from the left in the back row.
Colin, who lives in Winchester, dates it to 1953 when the lads were in their first year at the Portsmouth senior school. He remembers that headmaster Mr Lawrence was behind the camera.
Colin can remember some names: Billy Bartlett and Keith Davidson, while John Slade is on Colin’s left.
He says: ‘I do know that some of these lads were very good footballers and some went on to play for Pompey boys.
‘However, 10 years after this photo was taken I had my right leg amputated which ended my football days.’
Gloria Linter, from Hilsea, also got in touch to identify her late husband Terry Linter (back row, second from the right) who died in 1996.
Colin says he would like to get remaining members of the side together for a reunion. He can be contacted on 01962 867679 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
