Have your say

A rare sight in the area – a bright red double decker bus (above).

Adrian Willats, who has supplied all today’s pictures, knows exactly why this one was operating at Hayling Island.

He says some double deckers, as well as Leyland Nationals, were bought from Ribble Motor Services Ltd, a large bus operator in the north-west based in Preston, in 1986.

Some, such as the one pictured here (Bristol VR 658), ran for Southdown in red for a while before being repainted green and cream – that company’s livery.

The thicker white band around the front of the bus indicated that the vehicle was 14ft 6in high.

Adrian took the picture at Creek Road, Hayling, in February 1987.
