THIS WEEK IN 1984: Stained glass gift for Haslar Hospital

Have your say

I wonder how many of you were at Havant Rugby Club’s ground at the top of Fraser Road, Bedhampton nearly 30 years ago.

For on Saturday, March 3, 1985, 30 people were injured when the wooden floor of the stand gave way and they all fell through, dropping nearly 12 feet.

Many were taken to hospital, but luckily there were no fatalities.

The incident happened at 3.15pm while Havant were playing Gloucestershire’s Berry Hill in a John Player Cup match which was abandoned. Many of the injured were visiting Berry Hill supporters.
