Not some far flung island but Port Creek alongside Eastern Road, Portsmouth, earlier this week. I counted more than 50 plastic bottles along with other man-made filth.

This photomontage shows the eastern half of Harry Pounds’s scrapyard at the Tipner gateway to Portsmouth in 1988.

The yard was started just after the Second World War at Tipner Magazine.

The site became the resting place for many military vehicles and boats, including tanks, armoured cars, submarines and lightships.

The construction of the M275 caused problems for the scrapyard as the motorway divided it in two.
