Not some far flung island but Port Creek alongside Eastern Road, Portsmouth, earlier this week. I counted more than 50 plastic bottles along with other man-made filth.

This is Twyford Avenue, Stamshaw, Portsmouth, in 1953 but it could have been taken at almost any time in the past 70 years for it has changed little.

The trolley bus in the distance with the overhead power cables and the little car coming towards the camera could at first sight put the picture in the pre-war era, but the group of television aerials on the chimney just to the right of Meyrick Road puts the picture definitively in the 1950s.
