Have your say

When I was a boy in those long hot summer days of our youth, we used to visit Langstone to go swimming. We had to wait for high tide because, as you know, there is nothing but mud in the harbour.

On The Ship pub side of the then new bridge there was paving leading down to the water and floating, some 20 feet out, was a very large raft. I seem to remember it was made out of railway sleepers.

The raft was secured to the harbour mud by a long chain and it was a very good way to learn to swim. Does anyone remember the raft and what happened to it?
