Conservative workers in the greater Portsmouth area pledged their loyalty and support to the new leader of the party Margaret Thatcher.

The chairmen of the Portsmouth South Conservative Association, Freddie Emery-Wallis said: ‘I am delighted that we have such a person to lead the party.

‘It shows that the Tory party had a modern outlook and we are not as hidebound as our opponents think.

‘I look forward to a very effective leadership.’

Mr Tomlin said: ‘Under her leadership, I am sure we will be successful in electing a Tory MP in Portsmouth North at the general election.’
