A horrifying series of racist threats and violence in Portsmouth was exposed.

Since the city council introduced a racial harassment procedure in its housing section, 20 race hate complaints had been received.

Portsmouth’s housing committee was told that complaints ranged from graffiti and verbal abuse, to windows being smashed, and in one case a lit rag shoved through a letterbox.

Almost half the incidents occurred in the Somers Town area.
