THIS WEEK IN 1995: Old soldiers are still sharp shooters

Have your say

From the mid-1970s to the late 1980s I was a football referee. In that time I estimate I officiated in more than 750 games – sometimes four matches a weekend plus a Wednesday.

Back in 1986 there was a University World Cup Tournament held at the University of Surrey at Guildford and I was appointed one of the officials.

Over five days I was in the middle twice a day until Friday. On the Saturday at midday I was in the middle for the 3rd and 4th place play-off and in the afternoon I was on the line for the final.

Unfortunately I have lost all my football diaries plus many of my possessions including the final medal. As I remember the final was England v Spain.

Does the University World Cup Tournament still exist?
