This is Wendy Stacey digging herself out of Fawcett Road, Southsea, during the 1963 Big Freeze. Her parents had a newsagents in the road called C&M Sewards.
She says: ‘My grandchildren were amazed at the old van and also the lack of cars in the street.
‘Life was so different then with only one room having a fire and ice on the inside of the windows.
‘But it was all we knew. We just put more clothes on and moved a bit faster when getting washed and dressed.’
