I wonder how many of you remember, or were even members of, Ye Ancient Order of Froth Blowers?

It seems to have been a mickey-taking association perhaps comparable to Camra – the Campaign for Real Ale. Or perhaps not.

As you can see from this fascinating picture, the main drinking establishment for the froth blowers in Portsmouth was at the Goat Hotel. However, an away meeting was obviously held on March 5, 1927, at the Railway Hotel, Fratton.

It seems to have been a serious affair as there was a
tie at 5s 6d (28p) and cufflinks at 2s 8d (14p) which were available from the secretary.

The association, which had 70,000 members on November 10, 1926, had a balance sheet profit of more than £5,000, much of which was given to charity.

If you were in the association please contact me.
