THE large numbers of passengers that have been through Southampton Airport during November are expected to increase further during the Christmas period.

In November alone, the airport saw 140,000 people through its doors, up 11.7 per cent from last year.

Domestic routes such as Aberdeen, Leeds, and Belfast attracted more passengers than last year.

And nine per cent more international passengers used Southampton than last year.

The airport is expecting as many as 65,000 between December 19 and January 4, with the majority of getaways taking place on the weekend of the end of the school term.

Director of marketing and communications Jen Halliday said: ‘Christmas is a wonderful albeit busy time at Southampton Airport.’

In 2015 Southampton Airport will be expanding its routes, adding Corsica and Milan to its destinations.
