Staff on the pizza counter at Morrisons in Horndean cooked up a Hotter Than Hell pizza.

Created and sold exclusively for Halloween, the pizza was topped with the British-grown Naga – one of the world’s hottest chillies which has a Scoville rating of up to 1 million, 200 times hotter than a jalapeño.

The Hotter Than Hell pizza was a hit with customers craving a kick, with counter manager Emily McClintock saying that her team ‘couldn’t put them on the shelves quickly enough’.

She added: ‘People were just amazed at how hot it was, they couldn’t believe it. As soon as they took one bite, they had to start fanning their mouths.’

There were some unexpected customers, however, who could handle the heat.

Emily added: ‘There was one girl who was about eight years old, but she didn’t think it was spicy at all!’

The pizza was also topped with spicy pulled steak, spicy chicken, jalapeño pepperoni, a chilli cheese crumb, jalapeños and crushed chillies.

The ingredients were so dangerous to the faint-hearted that staff preparing the food were forced to wear protective gear, including safety goggles, latex gloves and aprons, and use special chopping utensils.

‘Safety does come first, but wearing the protective gear was surreal’, Emily said.

‘However, as soon as we made a few we got used to it, it just became second nature.

With more than 70 pizzas sold, customers are already demanding that Hotter Than Hell becomes a regular item at the store.

Emily said: ‘It worked well for Halloween, so I think it should be brought back once a year.

‘We would love to do a Man v Food-style challenge, I reckon we could even get (Man v Food host) Adam Richman over here to try it!
