There are two key points when it comes to Christmas Day reds.

Firstly, don't waste a bottle that you've been saving for a special occasion as there are too many distractions to give it your full attention.

Secondly, when it comes to matching the wine with the food, you need fruit in your red wine as it's not about the turkey it's about all those other flavours on the plate from stuffing to the cranberry sauce!

Try modern Spanish red, New Zealand pinot noir or Aussie shiraz. Go for Lagaris Crianza 2007, Ribera del Duero (Oddbins 14.99 with a 10 per cent discount on three bottles), or Craggy Range Te Muna Pinot Noir 2009, Martinborough (M&S 13.49).
