The Olympics could not be coming at a better time for English wine-growers.

The world’s attention will be focused here for a couple of weeks in the summer and without doubt English sparkling has now become capable of a place on the winner’s rostrum.

There are a number of producers who are producing fantastic fizz and one of those is Chapel Down ( The winery is near Tenterden, Kent, and it is here on the South Downs where the soils and climate match closely those of the Champagne region.

Chapel Down is one of the largest wineries in the UK and produces a good range of quality sparkling wine.

This is very fresh with bright, lemony fruit and a lovely clean finish. It makes a great aperitif.
