VISITORS had a whale of a time at an annual beer festival held in aid of worthy causes.

Beer lovers drank more than 3,000 pints of real ale and cider at the Wickham Charity Beer Festival, which was held at the Wickham Centre in Mill Lane

Almost £7,000 was raised for Sophie’s Appeal, part of children’s cancer charity The Sophie Barringer Trust, and Trust 2000, which raises money for community projects in the UK and overseas.

The money raised at the event, which is in its eighth year, beat last year’s total of £5,848.55. Visitors were also treated to a barbecue.

Dave Martin, who helped to organise this year’s festival, said: ‘A big thanks must go to all of our sponsors and volunteers.

‘Without them we would not be able to put on such a great event.’
