The August bank holiday weekend always feels like the last throw of summer, so hopefully the weather will be kind and we’ll get the chance to drink some wines in the garden.
Here are a few bottles I’ll be opening over the weekend. Starting off with my favourite fizz of the moment, Jansz Premium NV Cuvée, Tasmania (Camber Wines 023 9275 5225 – £12.75) made from a classic blend of chardonnay and pinot noir this has fresh citrus fruits as well as nuttiness and a wonderful yeastiness.
Waitrose Reserve Shiraz 2009, Barossa (Waitrose £9.99 on offer £7.49 until September 13) is made by St Hallett estate and has black fruit, spice and hints of mocha and a rich, smooth finish.
La Gitana Manzanilla, Bodegas Hidalgo
A delicious bone dry sherry with that unmistakable salty twist.
Hermitage Cellars £4.85 half bottle as well as Tesco, Waitrose £8.89 bottle.
