HARVEST festival-goers can pick up some new cooking skills at a free food event.

Gosport Borough Council’s countryside team is holding a Wild Harvest Festival at Grange Farm, in Howe Road, on September 11.

They will be cooking soups and meals using ingredients foraged from the local area and sharing the recipes with visitors.

Councillor Graham Burgess, chairman of the community board, said: ‘Hedgerow berries and wild fruits were an important source for people who relied heavily on nature for their food and medicine.

‘Much of this knowledge has now been forgotten, but when times are hard and money is tight there has never been a better time to take advantage of nature’s free bounty.’

Entry is free for the event which runs from 1pm to 4pm.
