Have your say

Don’t mention it too loudly but the sun arrived for the bank holiday weekend, so is this the start of summer?

If so then here are three whites that you need in your fridge to go with it.

There is more to New Zealand than Sauvignon Blanc, and Villa Maria Pinot Grigio 2011, East Coast (Waitrose £7.49 on offer from £9.99 until May 21) is a lovely fresh, summery white.

This has more flavour than many an Italian Pinot Grigio at a similar price, with more than a nod to Alsace. There’s melon, pear and apple with a little spice in the background.

Legaris Verdejo 2011, Rueda (Hermitage Cellars £7.15) was my favourite white of last summer and continues to offer great value. It has zesty citrus fruits with a touch of green herbs. Try it with some chilli squid.

TOP TIPPLE: Zalze Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2012, Coastal Region

Cape Chenin Blanc is definitely the taste of summer. It’s really fresh with tropical fruits, and has some lime on the nose. This is followed by a crisp, zesty palate with more tropical fruits and a long finish. It’s excellent value and a really good partner with salads or seafood.
