A few years ago I was lucky enough to be taken to lunch at Heston Blumenthal’s famed restaurant, The Fat Duck.
The experience was sublime, but what I remember as much as anything is a little card on the table asking diners to write down what flavours reminded them of their childhood.
Which brings me to this week’s top tipple – Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011. Probably the world’s most famous sauvignon blanc, it was recently released and I can’t help but feel a certain attachment to the wine.
I still remember in the late 1980s having my first taste of this now iconic wine. It was one of those moments that fired up my taste buds and I spent much of the next 10 years growing up with the wine.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough
Very aromatic with citrusy grapefruit and almost a touch of tomato, followed by a zesty citrus and tropical fruit palate and a long finish.
