We may not be out of November yet, but the countdown to Christmas has begun.
Champagne and Chablis are two styles of wine that regularly crop up on our Christmas table and there is no harm grabbing some offers now.
Tesco Finest Chablis Premier Cru 2011 (Tesco, £9.99 on offer from £13.99 until Christmas Day) is in the Finest range. It works pretty well, particularly at the offer price.
It’s crisp, elegant wine with some richness on the finish, which works well with fish or maybe the turkey.
Tesco Finest Premier Cru Champagne (Tesco, £16.99 on offer from £19.99 from December 4) is really quite serious and very well made. It’s fresh with a lovely toastiness and notes of citrus and nuts.
This would make an excellent aperitif on the big day – it’s great value.
Tesco Finest Vintage Grand Cru Champagne 2007
This is a Blanc de Blancs, so it’s made from 100 per cent Chardonnay and is remarkably complex with layers of honey, citrus and biscuit flavours. It would work as an aperitif, but it also has enough weight to match up with smoked salmon. At the offer price it’s a bargain.
