ALISTAIR GIBSON: Raising a glass and a dram to toast the poet, Rabbie

Have your say

New Year’s Eve is the perfect occasion to pop a Champagne cork and celebrate with the ultimate ‘feelgood’ wine .

One of the last great Champagne houses to still bear the name of the family that runs it is Champagne Tattinger. They are impressive.

My favourite is Tattinger Prélude Grands Crus (Majestic, on offer at £35), which is, as the name suggests, a blend from only Grand Cru vineyards of 50 per cent chardonnay and pinot noir.

There is real complexity here with citrus and brioche notes and a fine, lively stream of bubbles. If pink fizz is what you need then Tattinger Prestige Rosé (Majestic, on offer at £35) is a lovely, creamy example with red fruits and a little spice.

There’s a high proportion of chardonnay, which produces a light style with great elegance .

Widely available, but Waitrose now at £26.99 and Majestic at £25
