This weekend is traditionally a time for family lunches, with the hope of spring and all the start of the new season produces.
Roast lamb comes to mind but I have no doubt there will be chocolate eggs as well.
Con Sur Pinot Noir Reserva 2010, Casablanca Valley (Waitrose £7.99 on offer from £9.99) has to be of the best value Pinot Noir’s from anywhere, it’s very aromatic with red fruits and a little mocha and a friendly, velvety finish. It would work with lamb as well as turkey or a gammon.
Vina Pomal Reserva 2006, Rioja (Majestic £13.99 buy two bottles for £9.99) made from 100 per cent Tempranillo, is a traditional Rioja with red strawberry fruits, notes of vanilla, liquorice and a little spice, followed by a tasty finish. Perfect with lamb and good value.
Codorniu Seleccion Raventos NV, Cava: A blend of Chardonnay and local varieties Macabeo and Xarel-lo this is very modern. Quite full-bodied with citrus notes
From Majestic, £9.99 or two for £7.99 each.
