First-time buyers Jane and Paul Clark-Veness are stepping on to the property ladder with a new family home at Taylor Wimpey’s Strawberry Fields at Locks Heath, thanks to the Help to Buy scheme.

This popular initiative gave Jane, 31, and Paul, 34, the leg-up they needed to afford their first home and they are loving life in their three-bedroom Rosedale with their two young children, Oliver, four, and Charlie, nine months.

Jane says: ‘The Rosedale was the first property we looked at and we just fell in love with it. We initially thought we weren’t going to be able to afford a home under Help to Buy, but Briony, the Taylor Wimpey sales executive, sat down with us and looked through the figures and we discovered it could work for us. Jess, another Taylor Wimpey sales executive, helped us throughout the building process and with choosing our extras.

‘With the Help to Buy scheme we were able to raise the deposit required and it’s made a big difference to the monthly repayments on our mortgage.’

The family have lived in their new home since November 2014 after moving from their rented two-bedroom terraced property at Whiteley.

Under Help to Buy, first-time buyers as well as existing homeowners can secure a government loan for up to 20 per cent of their new home’s full price, so they only need a 75 per cent loan-to-value mortgage and a deposit as low as five per cent. Help to Buy is available on new-build homes up to the value of £600,000 and there’s no salary cap for purchasers making use of the scheme.

Jane says: ‘Using the Help to Buy scheme with Taylor Wimpey was really easy and the sales team was so supportive – it was as stress-free as a house move can be, especially with how nerve-wracking it is as a first-time buyer.

‘It’s the perfect family home for us. We absolutely love it here – our house is around a corner of the development at the end of a cul-de-sac so we don’t have any through traffic, which is great for our two cats and for when the boys grow up and want to play outside.

‘It’s the perfect long-term family home on a great open-spaced development. The L-shape design of our house really appealed to us and the fact that the master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom means that when I have two teenage boys I still have a bathroom to myself!’

There’s currently a wide selection of homes available to reserve at Strawberry Fields, including two-bedroom apartments priced from £192,000 and four-bedroom designs from £330,000.

Strawberry Fields enjoys a peaceful cul-de-sac location on the edge of Locks Heath, nestled between an established residential area and fields leading down to the pretty marinas and walks of the tidal River Hamble.

Within walking distance is the Lockswood Centre, which offers a host of amenities for day-to-day living, including a Waitrose supermarket, shops, a library, a medical centre and a community centre, while the charming village of Warsash is also close to home.

For more information, visit the sales information centre, located off Peters Road, Locks Heath, Southampton, SO31 6EQ.

The centre is open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 5pm and 1pm to 5pm on Fridays, while the sales executive can also be contacted on 01489 664424.
