Barncroft Infants’ and Junior School was located in Bedhampton. The infants school fronted Barncroft Way and the juniors faced Park Lane.
Sadly the infants was demolished recently for housing, but the juniors has been rebuilt and enlarged.
A much-loved school, it opened in the late 1950s and was attended by pupils from Leigh Park and Bedhampton. It boasted a swimming pool built in 1963 as an open-air pool then covered about 1964.
In these two photographs we see a nativity play from 1963 and the winning netball team from 1968.
Circled in the nativity play is Janet Pond who used to live in Purbrook Way.
In the colour photograph we see the junior school netball team. They competed in the 1968-69 Netball Rally held between all the local schools at Trosnant Junior School, Havant. Barncroft Juniors won the event that year and won a magnificent trophy. I wonder what happened to it?
