Arthur Smith-Weston, the chairman of the Eastney-based Solent Camera Club came across a box of 100 dirty and mouldy glass negatives in a damp box at a car boot sale.
He says: ‘As a collection they form a history of a typical but unknown Portsmouth family in the early 1900s.
‘Individually they are a record of the way we used to live.’
He has made prints from those negatives and restored some of them.
