It’s 55 years since these lads first kicked a football together, but the bond that brings is still going strong.
Portsmouth team Kendal FC were founded in the summer of 1960 and played in the city’s Saturday leagues for 25 years.
They are all knocking on a bit of course, instead of knocking them in, but that did not prevent them gathering for a reunion at The Jolly Taxpayer pub at Baffins.
Those get-togethers used to be every five years, but organiser Nev Shaw says they will now be held annually.
Nev, of Stanley Avenue, Copnor, and the club’s first captain, adds: ‘Since our last reunion in 2010 three former members have died – Lou Nicholson, Bob Hill and Bob Ralls, the first secretary.’
The reunions have also lost two former Pompey players who always attended – Jimmy Stephen and John Phillips.
