THIS WEEK IN 1973: Council urged to drop £2.5m roadÂ

The £2.5m section of Portsmouth's new principal road scheme from Bradford junction, including a proposed flyover, to Elm Grove, was to be abandoned.Â

This recommendation was made by the traffic committee, despite the city engineer warning them that it would bring major congestion to the roads weeks before.

The plans did not go ahead and in 2018, Bradford Road is now a dead end where Winston Churchill Avenue cuts off its junction with Blackfriars Road.Â
