THIS WEEK IN 1989: I’ll keep driving vows Irene, 92

Have your say

One of Britain’s oldest drivers vowed to stay behind her wheel despite being convicted of two motoring offences.

Irene Oldbury, 92, of Campbell Road, Southsea, crashed into a parked car, Portsmouth magistrates were told.

She failed an eyesight test shortly after the incident, but said the accident was not her fault.

There was no reason why she should not keep driving as she was in good health and had a pair of glasses to help her sight, she said.
