Cat-loathing Lucy the boxer dog got her hormones in a twist when she adopted six abandoned kittens.
Despite being less than the perfect mother to her own pups in the past, the broody boxer took a motherly shine to the orphans.
The kittens were born in a garden in Guildford Road, Fratton, and deserted by their mother.
Cold, wet and close to death they were discovered by Kerry Scott who rushed them to her friend Gretta Arnold, a former veterinary nurse.
As Gretta, of Glencoe Road, Portsea, began the arduous task of hand-rearing the kittens she was amazed to find a willing helper in Lucy.
Gretta said: ‘She usually hates cats, but she has really taken to the kittens. She licks them and is keeping them really close to her.’
