Last year everybody at our school helped raise money to create a beautiful outside play area.
The area of the school facing Albert Road, Southsea, had for a long time been dark and overgrown and our pond had silted up.
We decided to freshen up the whole area and make the most of the space to support our outside learning opportunities.
Our friends’ group raised money to regenerate some of the planting areas and pay for a beautiful willow tunnel which was planted in the spring.
Volunteers from SSE came twice to dig out and re-line our pond.
This provided a new home for our frogs and the local birdlife.
During the summer term Learning Through Landscapes came to help the children build a bee hotel.
Groups of children were able to lift, saw, drill, hammer and paint pieces of wood to make a magnificent structure.
The children worked hard in tandem with the school gardener and with parent volunteers to replant our allotment.
It worked wonders – in the autumn they harvested tomatoes, beans and radishes.,
