Reduce the water given to cacti and dust off the pads with a small paint brush to smarten them up. Try to remove chickweed before it flowers otherwise it will cover the soil in winter. Put the weeds into the compost bin. Azaleas that are in pots can be brought indoors. Clean up the plants and give them a good shake to remove a lot of dead leaves. Save the rain water for watering the pots. Prune indoor hibiscus as soon as all the flowers have faded. Cut back all the side shoots by half and nip out the tip. Only water them when the compost feels dry and don't feed it again until April. The amaryllis leaves should have died back by now. If not, cut all the leaves off and re-pot into John Innes number three compost but don't water until you see the flower bud next year. The flower bud will be fat if it is watered too soon. In this case, there will be some leaves but no flower bud, so wait until the fat flower bud is visible.
