GARDENING: Readers' questions and a whole host of horticultural jobs from Brian Kidd

Have your say

Last week there was slippy wet stuff everywhere – more chips please.

Wood-chip fairy’ Christmas came early however, when the Fresh Herb Company ( brought us boxes and boxes of basil, parsley and mint to decorate tables at the Shaping Portsmouth conference.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are still busy, when the rain stops, with our volunteer friends sweeping, weeding and taking cuttings of the plants from the flower bed which we want to tuck up in the Greenhouse for the winter.

If you like flowers and want Christmas decoration ideas, our friend Pat and friends are having a Christmas flower demonstration at Drayton United Church hall, Havant Road, on November 27 from 1.15pm. Tickets £5 and further information from Muriel on (023) 9237 9868

Pat has been our own garden fairy over the years.

She has knitted gloves and bootees for our big and little gardeners and furnished us with garden benches, a greenhouse, seeds and hundreds of flowering shrubs and trees.

Keep warm loves!
