The top 10 happiest places to live in the UK - according to experts

Right Move has released its 2020 Happy at Home index, which ranks locations around the UK based on happiness factors and feedback from residents, to reveal the happiest places to live in the UK

The Cornish coastal town of St Ives bagged the top spot as the happiest place to live in the UK, coming in first on the Rightmove 2020 Happy at Home Index. The study, with over 21,000 respondents, found that coastal areas in general are where people feel the happiest.
Second is Skipton, in North Yorkshire. The study, now in its ninth year, asks residents to rank the area using ten happiest factors. These factors include things like how friendly the neighbours are, how good local services are, and the sense of belonging.

Taking the third spot is Leamington Spa, in Warwickshire. The study has found that people are appreciating what’s on their doorstep more, with over a third of people stating that they now like their local area more than before.
Llandrindod Wells takes the top spot in Wales, and it also returned the highest score across the UK for residents feeling like they are able to really be themselves.
Perth bags the top spot in Scotland, and according to the study, also boasts one of the strongest community spirits.
Just missing out on a spot in the top five list is Kendal, in the North West. According to the study, 56 per cent of people who plan on buying or renting a place in the next 12 months claim they now put greater importance on access to nature and green spaces when it comes to deciding where they want to live.
In seventh place is Stratford-upon-Avon, in the West Midlands. The study found that access to green spaces made people more appreciative of where they live.
Next is Dorchester, in the South West. According to the study, 36 per cent of people said they now like their area more after experiencing lockdown, 46 per cent said there’s been no change in how they feel, and only 18 per cent said they now like their area less.
In ninth place is Harrogate, in North Yorkshire. Other happiness measures used in the study also included artistic and cultural activities, and non-essential amenities such as shops and restaurants.
Just making the top ten list is Richmond upon Thames, in London. Richmond upon Thames has been named the happiest place to live in London for the sixth year in a row. In Richmond upon Thames, the average asking rent price for a two bed flat is £1,879 per calendar month.
