Trio of gardeners presented with awards after Bloomin' Marvellous success

DAB-HANDED gardeners have scooped cash prizes after their success in a competition run by The News.

The trio topped the entries to earn the coveted first, second and third-place spots as the Bloomin' Marvellous contest returned for 2018. 

Collecting awards for their efforts '“ vouchers donated by the Garsons garden centre in Titchfield '“ they met for the first time.

Crowned the overall victor was Ray Hunt, from Waterlooville, for his quirky, well-kept back garden boasting palm trees, innovative planting and a chocolate cosmos '“ a cocoa-scented Mexican dahlia.

His win earned him a £100 voucher, Bloomin' Marvellous' biggest sum on offer. 

Following were runners-up responsible for a stunning effort at Langdale Nursing Home, in Gosport. 

The site takes pride in getting its patients involved in gardening as a mode of therapy.

Employee Bethney Kelly collected its £50 prize.

Finally, Geoff Craig, from Copnor, finished third to earn a £25 voucher. 

Garsons judges Callum Hartley and Peter Green were impressed by the pristine, floral display hanging over his patio.

But of all entries '“ including those which didn't make the final three winners '“ the pair said: '˜Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition.

'˜It's clear you've all put a lot of effort into your gardens, but some were just more impressive than others.'
