THE Lord Mayor of Portsmouth is to become a patron of the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

Councillor Steven Wylie attended the pantomime Aladdin as part of the Lord Mayor’s appeal night, and was invited on stage.

He then kept up pantomime tradition and asked the audience to join in and help him answer the proposal to become patron of the theatre – to which he said yes.

He said: ‘I am very pleased to be able to become a patron of this iconic and historic theatre in our city.’

Chairman of the theatre trust Ron Hasker, pictured above with Cllr Wylie, said: ‘It is a delight to have this great link between the Kings and the Lord Mayor.’

Cllr Wylie added: ‘I look forward to seeing the theatre have a successful future.’
