Albert and Doris, from Fareham, first met at a dance at South Parade Pier and were married at Portsmouth Cathedral on March 29, 1952.

Albert had just finished serving with the RAF when he first saw Doris.

The 84-year-old says: ‘I guess it was love at first sight.

‘My work took me abroad to Ghana in West Africa for five years, then on to Saudi Arabia for six years. By then I was due for retirement and we moved to Scotland for five years, and moved back.’

Before moving to Scotland, Albert worked for Airspeed and Doris was a machinist at FormFit before becoming a manager and retiring at 60.

They have one son Guy, 58, and two grandchildren, Shaun and Janet, who are both in their thirties. They also have two great-grandchildren, Casey, nine, and Zack, seven.
