After school clubs are popular at Barncroft

THIS WEEK IN 1984: Navy defends nums over playtime row

Have your say

BARNCROFT Primary offers many different after-school clubs both sports and non-sports-based, writes headteacher Elizabeth Blake.

This includes boys’ and girls’ football, netball, a multi-sports club, PCSOs and craft club.

The boys’ football teams trained hard every week throughout the winter and took part in a inter-school tournament, as well as several friendlies against other local schools.

The girls’ team made it through to the semi-final of their tournament unfortunately being pipped to the post in the last match. They have all made us proud with their commitment and the sportsmanship they have shown.

The netball team, a mixed team of girls and boys, was not formed until last term, but did well in a friendly match showing how much they had learnt.

Now the football season has come to an end we have offered a fun multi-sports club. This will run for a total of 10 weeks and focuses on a different sport each week including rounders and tag rugby to name but a few.

The PCSOs come to our school fortnightly and do many different activities for the Year 6 pupils including taking them a local station and bringing a police van for them to look around.

Our craft club has run successfully all year.

At Christmas they made some lovely decorations from the cardboard paper towel tubes that were put up around the school and were very effective. They entered a competition run by Hobbycraft at Easter and came in third.

Well done to everyone who has taken part in any of these clubs this year and a big thank you to the staff who have given up their time to run these clubs for the children.
