LETTER OF THE DAY: Council tax rise? Pity my income hasn’t grown...

Have your say

Alicia Peake didn’t just have friends to her second birthday party – a raccoon, lizard and guinea pig were invited too.

Alicia, from Leigh Park, loves animals and her mum Sam discovered a company called Peculiar Pets which rehomes, cares for and breeds exotic species.

Part of their work involves visiting events, telling people about the animals and letting them meet and in some cases feed them.

So Alicia and her friends learned all about raccoons, meerkats and more conventional pets like guinea pigs and got to stroke some of them.

Sam said: ‘They’re experts and have some rescue animals. The children absolutely loved it and they got to learn something too.’

The birthday girl’s celebrations were held at St Francis Church hall in Leigh Park and she invited 15 human friends.

After the animals had left the children enjoyed party food and Alicia was presented with her birthday cake – a caterpillar to fit the animal theme.
