LETTER OF THE DAY: Council tax rise? Pity my income hasn’t grown...

Have your say

Heather James, well-known to many people in Portsmouth as a columnist for The News, celebrated her 60th birthday in style with a charity variety show at the Kings Theatre with an array of performers.

Five hundred people attended the big birthday bash, some arriving in pink from head to toe, with feather boas and masquerade masks.

There were 120 performers across the evening, including drag queen Dave Lynn, burlesque acts, a Stavros Flatley tribute and lindy hop dancers.

The show went without a hitch, despite there being little time for rehearsals.

Heather says: ‘Someone asked if I was enjoying it and I replied that it was quite surreal.

‘But all in all it was a fabulous evening and I’m delighted that it should raise a sizeable amount for Breast Cancer Research.’
