Touchline Tony has met a few famous faces during his 11 previous London Marathons.
He has chatted with Frank Bruno, Richard Branson, Katie Price and Peter Andre.
But he always insists on running his marathons alone as he likes to focus on the running.
Tony Male, from Milton, who is a familiar face and voice at Fratton Park as the compere before and after matches, is an experienced marathon runner with a high level of fitness. But he does insist on one lucky charm to get him through the marathon, which he hopes to complete this year in around five hours.
‘I always wear the same socks,’ says the 52-year-old, who manages the Pompey Legends team.
‘I’ve got a pair of blue socks I wear. They’ve been with me 15 years, but they do get washed all the time!’
Over the years Tony has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity through his running.
This year he hopes to raise £3,000 to help a charity called Gets Kids Going, which gives disabled children the opportunity to participate in sport.
Tony will be running in full Pompey kit and knows he will get plenty of support from the Pompey fans who go up to London to help cheer him on.
He says the camaraderie between runners is remarkable.
‘Everyone helps each other,’ he says.
‘ Unless you are one of the athletes, you are there just to finish the course. The crowds on the day are fabulous.’
About running alone, Tony laughs: ‘I run on my own because I am not a chatterbox – I just like running.’
