Sailor Luke Morrison is this week’s We Can Do It T-shirt winner because he is stepping out of his comfort zone for a worthy cause.

Luke, 29, will sail a dinghy single-handed from Hill Head Sailing Club, near Fareham to the Isle of Wight and back on Saturday, June 9.

Luke is taking on the challenge to raise money for Basics Hampshire, a team of doctors who give up their free time to help save people’s lives.

Luke, of Salerno Drive, Gosport, hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity. He says: ‘I’m feeling slightly apprehensive, because even though I’ve been sailing for 20 years, I’ve never done anything like this before - and it’s not often done by people in a dinghy.’

Luke estimates that it will take him between nine and 12 hours to complete the feat.

He will be accompanied by a support boat which will ensure he has food and drink along the way.

‘I’ve been training hard for this,’ he says.

‘I will be elated but also exhausted by the time I get back to Hill Head Sailing Club. But the thought of the hard-working doctors and the money and awareness raised for Basics Hampshire will keep me going.’

He adds: ‘Fortunately, I’ve never needed their help. But if I ever did I would trust them completely. I believe that local causes don’t get the recognition they deserve.’
