Nancy Price had a visit from Councillor Susan Byford, the mayor of Fareham, to celebrate her 100th birthday on Tuesday.
The Mayor attended the party at Tudor Lodge Nursing Home, Fareham, where Nancy (whose real name is Anne) lives.
Nancy has been at Tudor Lodge for four years and previously lived at Hill Head for 60 years.
She was born in Sri Lanka, the youngest of four, and moved to Kent to go to school at 13.
Later, she married Alan Price, a navy dentist. With him, she travelled all over the world, including the Middle East, Far East, Malta and Singapore.
Nancy received a birthday card from the Queen and remembers fondly the day, back home in Sri Lanka, when her mother told her the news that Queen Elizabeth II had been born.
At her party, there was bagpipe-playing. Nancy’s father and brother had played the pipes.
She celebrated with care staff and her family, including her nephew who came especially from Australia for the occasion.
She is a big dog lover and a keen tennis fan. Her advice for longevity is to ‘pace yourself - enjoy life, but in moderation’.
